Band
High School Band
Description
The High School Band meets during the school day Monday through Friday. This class is comprised of all students who have previous experience on a band instrument or who have a desire to learn one at a fast pace. The band consists of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders. The following instruments in this class are Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion. Each student is expected to practice at home on their own time as well as in class.
Ensembles
The High School Band forms two main ensembles and one secondary ensemble for the TCS Instrumental Music Department. The first are the Marching Eagles. Their presence and musical entertainment has excited both fans and athletes at the football games. The Marching Eagles perform at all home games. The secondary ensemble, the pep band, is formed from this class as well and is student run. The pep band, or Jammin’ Eagles, perform at all home basketball games.
The primary group is the Toledo Christian Wind Ensemble. This ensemble has received a “Superior” rating at the ACSI Music Festival held at Cedarville College. Upon receiving this rating, the Wind Ensemble also received a standing ovation from the judges. The Wind Ensemble has been asked to be a premier performing group for the Accreditation of Christian Schools International Ohio River Valley Conference in the fall of 2006. This honor has never been received by any other Christian school in the conference. This is a fine musical group that has a lot of fun and makes plenty of music all year long. There is a high level of Excellence that has been set by the Wind Ensemble students and it is obvious in their dedication and performances.
Rehearsals
The band class meets everyday during the school week. However, there are also a few days throughout the year when there are scheduled rehearsals after school on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:30. These rehearsals are few and far between and are a part of the final grade.
Students
Many of the students in the High School band are also active athletes, honor students, or disciplined in other arts. Athletes are able to participate in the Marching Eagles, the Wind Ensemble and the Jammin’ Eagles. The relationship between the Instrumental Music Department and the Athletic Department is such that the students will not be penalized for being talented in both areas. The band class will not interfere with academic studies; neither will it interfere with Athletics.
